iOS 15.5 extends iPhone battery life
The latest update to the operating system manages to extend the battery life of almost every iPhone model.

One of the complaints that came with the update to iOS 15.4 was that suddenly, battery consumption on the iPhone it was installed on rose dramatically. As we reported on Descubre Apple, the difference in that consumption was so obvious that even Apple had to step in with a provisional fix and explain the situation.
Even then we thought that, explanations aside, the company would most likely fix the issue in a future software update, and that is exactly what happened with the release of iOS 15.5, which seems to have recharged, both metaphorically and literally, every iPhone that supports it. Well, every one, not quite…
Prompted by the striking excessive consumption of the previous operating system, the team at iAppleBytes ran an exhaustive test on a good number of iPhone units after updating them to iOS 15.5, and found that, in most cases at least, battery performance has improved substantially. As Apple had already advised, they waited the customary 48 hours for the system and the apps to settle properly before getting to work, and the results were genuinely interesting.
The extra 28 minutes gained by the iPhone 13 stand out. Although it already posted notable figures from launch, that nearly half hour more makes the latest model in the apple lineup an even more advisable choice. The rest of the models that support version 15.5 all improve, some (iPhone 6S, iPhone 11, iPhone 8) more than others (iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone Xr), but all gain some time.
Well, we said at the start of the article that not every device improved with the update. We were referring specifically to the iPhone 12, which fell apart in the test, with a battery life 42 minutes shorter than it offered on iOS 15.4. That figure, besides being surprising under the circumstances, may be due to an error in the test itself, as iAppleBytes indicates, rather than to the actual performance of the smartphone.
So if you still haven’t decided to update to iOS 15.5, here’s one more reason to go for it: battery life (and battery health) is one of the most important factors both for daily use and for the resale value of the device if you decide to sell it.
